These are the other two running vehicles in the stable.
1987.5 5000S quattro, turbo tail lamps, revamped stereo.
1999.5 Jetta GL, box stock.
The 5000 has gotten some N.O.S. Hella foglamps. While they have helped some in aiding the really bad DOT-compliant headlamps, the lighting is still not as good as I had hoped. You can click here for a before shot down the alley at the shop and here for an after. Then clicking here and here will show you how they look at night, mounted and lit up.
In other news, this time last year the 5kq sprung a fairly major leak in it's gas tank. Not good. Then a wheel bearing or two started going bad, then the rear diff started heating up and making noise. That, added with spotty heat in the winter, noise in the dash suspension over-haul looming et cetera et cetera caused me to park it. I've driven it twice since then. The last weekend of July '07 I ran down to Kentucky to pick up a new daily driver that will hopefully be less problematic until I can get something newer. I managed to pick up a 1990 V8 quattro for pennies (sort of) and have been driving it since. It was pretty nice on the inside, ran well, but has some quirks. Transmission sometimes locks in 3rd, likely just a sensor issue. Idles high due to a sticky ISV. Needs an O2. Now needs a front C.S. wheel bearing. Tires have gotten me around 2k miles since purchase and will need to be replaced soon (already have new tires). Need to wax it, again, as the paint was in rough shape. Stereo system is about 75% back, need to get the other amp hooked up and the 6.5's in the rear. But, it's fast, comfortable and gets better mileage (barely!) than the Jeep Comanche I was borrowing...Pictures to follow once it's cleaned up (again).
